All first time applicants for motor driver’s license have to fill out and submit a special provisional license application form and be issued with a learner’s license which is valid for a period of 3 months. Those who have passed their driving test at the end of the 3 month period will be issued with a certificate of competence indicating the choice of vehicle grouping as stated below.
Group A – Private auto car
Group B – Motor cycle
Group C – Commercial vehicle
Group D – Motor vehicle of special type
Applicants for International driving license are issued A, B, C, D, and E.
An international driver’s license is valid for only 90 days. After that the holder has to obtain a Gambian Driver’s License if they wish to continue driving vehicles on the roads.
